Text deusch/engl. «Collectanea de Logarithmis2014 ist der 400. Geburtstag der Logarithmen, da 1614 die erste Logarithmentafel "Mirifici Logarithmorum Canonis Descriptio" von John Napier veröffentlicht wurde. Diesen Meilenstein der Mathematikgeschichte in Erinnerung zu rufen war Anlass für mich, vorhandenes und verfügbares Material zum Thema Logarithmen in einer Collectanea de Logarithmis zusammenzustellen. Der Inhalt ist zweisprachig (Deutsch – Englisch) gehalten.Als Ergebnis einer 10-jährigen Sammlung und strukturierten Dokumentation aller verfügbaren und zugänglichen Informationen zum Thema Logarithmen enthält die Collectanea über 3200 Einträge - Artikel, Tabellen und Internetlinks zu vielen kompetenten Autoren, die über Logarithmen veröffentlicht haben.Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt bei den Logarithmentafeln. In der Collectanea sind mehr als 3000 Logarithmentafeln aus allen Teilen der Welt mit Angaben zum Erscheinungsjahr, der Anzahl der Stellen, dem Titel, Autor, Verlag, Erscheinungsort, Sprache und Links auf einer pdf mit 121 Seiten dokumentiert. Etwa 700 dieser Links führen zu digitalisierten originalen Logarithmen-tafeln. Die meisten dieser Tafeln können heruntergeladen werden, sodass sich der Leser einen besseren Eindruck über den Aufbau und Inhalt dieser Tafeln verschaffen kann.Weiterhin enthält die Collectanea spezifische Originalartikel aus Astronomie, Wissenschaft, Technik, Wirtschaft, Verkehr und Forschung, die sowohl theoretische wie auch tiefergehende Hintergrundinformationen zur Rolle der Logarithmen in den letzten 5 Jahrhunderten liefern. Einige der 90 Artikel - 27 Artikel sind in Englisch, 63 in deutscher Sprache – sind in der Collectanea das erste Mal veröffentlicht oder nur schwer online zugänglich.Die Collectanea de Logarithmis bietet eine intensive historische Informationsflut zum Thema Logarithmen. Mit all diesen Informationen eröffnet die Collectanea in einer einzigen Doku-mentation einen Ausgangspunkt wie auch Fundgrube für weitere Studien und erspart viele vergebliche Surfingstunden im Internet. Da all diese Informationen nicht in ein Buch passen würden, wird die Collectanea als eine USB-Stick-geschützte offline homepage für den persönlichen Gebrauch angeboten. Die Navigation mit dem eingebauten Browser entspricht der der üblichen Browser. Der Preis enthält eine jährliche Aktualisierung.Die Collectanea de Logarithmis offline homepage ist auf einer DVD als exe-file (ca. 170 MB) gespeichert und braucht Microsoft zur Installation.Collectanea de Logarithmis- 2014 is the 400th anniversary of a calculating paradigm shift: the logarithm. The first Table of Logarithms, “Mirifici Logarithmorum Canonis Descriptio”, was published in 1614 by John Napier. It seemed fitting to mark this milestone by chronicling everything known about this revolutionary invention as a compendium: the Collectanea de Logarithmis and shown here as a “mind map”. The bilingual German/English content of the Collectanea consists of more than 3200 entries representing umpteen articles, many tables and Internet links relevant to the logarithm. This logarithmic “labour of love” took more than 10 years of research to collect and compile. For example, the topic “Tables of Logarithms” includes a unique 121-page worldwide inventory of more than 3100 tables by the year they were first published, the author, the title, the publisher/city, the language and for many, a link to an online source. However, nearly a quarter of the links is to 700 digitised original tables and most are downloadable. This in turn creates the opportunity to study such tables in-depth and to learn first-hand how their content and design evolved over time. The many specialised articles included with the Collectanea compendium cover logarithm-related areas such as science, engineering, economics, transportation and academic study. They provide a theoretical and in-depth insight into the part played by logarithms during the last five centuries. Some of the over 90 articles, 27 of these in English, have never been previously published or are not readily available anywhere else. So the Collectanea de Logarithmis provides a rich historical account of the role and calculating importance of logarithms. It represents an invaluable resource for further study or reference. Importantly being a unique “one-stop shop”, it will doubtlessly save hours of unfruitful Internet surfing and library visits as everything you are ever likely to need is to hand with the Collectanea. The sheer volume of the contents practically and financially precluded publishing the Collectanea de Logarithmis as a book. So it is only available digitally as a DVD. To protect against plagiarism, copies of the Collectanea come with a USB-stick security device. This PC device activates an offline “home page” on the DVD. Very much mirroring the experience of commercial Internet browsers, the intuitive inbuilt browser makes it easy to navigate through the Collectanea and discover its “Aladdin’s Cave” encyclopedia of information. Annual updates to the Collectanea. N.B.: the DVD Collectanea de Logarithmis and the USB-stick security device will only run in a Microsoft (XP/VISTA/Windows 7/8) environment.»
